Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Cats throttled the McAllen Thunder 9-0 on Tuesday to advance to 5-0 on the year and remain atop the standings of United League Baseball.
Fort Worth jumped on Thunder (3-2) starting pitcher Jackson Yede in the first inning. After third baseman Greg Bachman plated center fielder Tim Maitland with a groundout, first baseman David Bergin homered to left to put the Cats up 4-0.
Bergin finished the night two-for-five with four RBI's.
Although four runs was more than enough for the Cats pitchers, the team added four more in the second off Yede and relief pitcher Patrick Durland.
The offensive production was the highlight of the night, but starting pitcher Cole Stephens was another bright spot for the Cats. Stephens allowed only two hits in 5.2 innings of work.
After allowing only one run over 22.2 innings this season, Cats' starting pitching has a 0.40 earned run average.
Designated hitter Jose Canseco went hitless with an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts on the night.
This is the third game in a row that the Cats have put up at least eight runs and Tuesday was also the team's second shutout of the young season.
Fort Worth will take on the Thunder again on Wednesday at LaGrave Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
