Off-Season Scouting Keeps Fighting Falcons Busy

Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - When the Port Huron Fighting Falcons' third NAHL season ended in the North division semi-finals in mid-April, scouting for next season became the priority right away.
The morning after the 2012-13 season came to a close, Fighting Falcons scouts hit the road to Indiana for the Five Hole Hockey Showcase. That same weekend, another group of coaches and scouts headed to Canton, Michigan for the Michigan Pre-Draft Showcase.
A week later coaches and scouts took in the action at the Minnesota National Invitational Tournament in Plymouth, Minnesota, as well as the first session of the USHL Combine in Chicago.
In the coming weeks, the Fighting Falcons will have a presence throughout the Midwest at showcases in Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota. East Coast scouts will continue to scour that region for talent throughout the summer.
Attending USHL tryout camps will provide a great opportunity to find NAHL-level talent that may slip through the cracks, like Tyler Spezia, who went on a tear with the Fighting Falcons after a stint in the USHL.
The Fighting Falcons will hold tryout camps of their own this summer, with a pre-draft camp May 31 through June 2. The team will use this camp to get a closer look at prospects hoping to be selected in the NAHL Draft on June 4.
An open camp for players not selected in the draft will take place June 21-23. The best available players from each camp will join the Fighting Falcons' tendered players and returning veterans at main camp in late July. All tryout camps will take place at Mt. Clemens Ice Arena.
The rigorous off-season scouting schedule has left no time to mourn the end of the season, leaving hope and optimism for next season.
When the Fighting Falcons return to Port Huron for their fourth season this fall, they will have spent months scouting the best talent available. Through scouting, the draft and tryout camps, the team is poised to make a run for the Robertson Cup in 2014.
Season tickets for 2013-14 are on sale now at the McMorran Arena Box Office. Full-season packages start at just $175, with many exciting new benefits for next season. For more information, call the Fighting Falcons' front office at (810) 966-3800.
The team is currently offering a free game-worn 2012-13 road jersey to the first 25 fans who purchase two or more full-season ticket packages.
