Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Two JetHawks were selected to represent the California League in the annual mid-season all-star game between the Carolina League and California League. OF Bubba Bell and INF Tony Granadillo join 13 other players from the California League's Southern Division and seven from the Northern Division for the festivities held June 19 in Stockton.

24-year-old outfielder Bubba Bell is a candidate for the triple crown as the Texas native leads the California League in batting average at .373 and RBI at 55, and is tied for second in home runs with 14. He has gone back-to-back games without a hit just once all season with 24 multi-hit games. Bell will play center field for the All-Star team.

Tony Granadillo, a 22-year-old infielder, is right behind Bell among the league leaders in hitting, batting .354. He has added four home runs and 25 RBI. In a strange quirk of fitting together the votes, Granadillo has been selected as the all-star team's starting shortstop despite not having played a game at that position since 2002 when he played shortstop in the Venezuelan Summer League while being part of the St. Louis Cardinals Organization. The Venezuelan native has played primarily at second base and third base this season with the JetHawks.

The Lake Elsinore Storm led the California League with six all-stars selected. The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes added four, with Inland Empire, Modesto, and Visalia joining the JetHawks with two. Bakersfield, Stockton, San Jose, and High Desert each have just one player in the game.

The Carolina League will announce its All Star team later this week.

Great tickets for most JetHawks home games are available now. Contact the JetHawks box office by phone at (661) 726-5400 or online at www.JetHawks.com.
