Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks will be glad to get out of Modesto. For the second straight game, all the breaks went Modesto's way. The Nuts got a great start from pitcher Alan Johnson, held the JetHawks to just three hits, and beat Lancaster by a final score of 9-0. Inland Empire lost as well, keeping the JetHawks in a tie for first place in the Southern Division. Rancho Cucamonga remains just a half-game back, with Lake Elsinore closing to a game and a half back. High Desert also closes to within three with just 12 games left in the first half.
Alan Johnson was outstanding for Modest. The JetHawks, after getting a double in the first inning from Tony Granadillo and a double in the third inning from Mark Wagner, did not get another hit until the ninth inning when Aaron Bates hit a single. The JetHawks loaded the bases in the ninth but did not score. Only Wagner excelled at the plate, reaching safely all four times with the double and three walks.
Off the field, the JetHawks did receive good news Wednesday. Bubba Bell and Tony Granadillo both found out they were named to the California League All-Star game. Hunter Jones was named the Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month, and catcher Mark Wagner was named the Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Month.
The JetHawks open up a critical four-game homestand Thursday night against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Justin Masterson (2-5, 6.07) pitches for the JetHawks. The Quakes counter with pitcher Francisco Rodriguez (2-3, 4.47). The game starts at 6:30 PM and will be broadcast on radio at Magic 1340 AM, as well as on internet at www.JetHawks.com. The pre-game show begins at 6:15.
It is a Cheers Buck Beers Thursday at Clear Channel Stadium. Draught beer will be on sale for just $1.
