Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Every break seemed to go against the JetHawks Tuesday night in Modesto. The Nuts used two stolen bases, a passed ball, an error, and a balk to help score six runs in the first inning as the Nuts blazed out to an 11-6 win over the JetHawks. Combined with Inland Empire's win, the JetHawks are now tied for first place once more with the 66ers and are just one half-game ahead of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with just 12 games left in the first half.

Lancaster got the best start they possibly could to the game. Shortstop Christian Lara, batting lead-off in place of the injured Bubba Bell, hit a solo home run to give Lancaster an early lead. However, that seemed to be the last stroke of luck the JetHawks would get.

Modesto, the league leader in stolen bases, ran ragged against the JetHawks. That pressure helped lead to five stolen bases, a passed ball, an error trying to catch a runner stealing, and a balk. After scoring six runs in the first inning, the JetHawks never got back closer than five behind.

Salvador Paniagua hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning to get their last three runs. Paniagua, in his first game since rejoining the club from AA Portland, had two hits with three RBI. Jason Blackey also excelled for Lancaster, pitching two perfect innings of relief with three strikeouts.

The JetHawks wrap up a three-game road trip Wednesday night against the Modesto Nuts. Kevin Guyette (3-1, 3.46) pitches for the JetHawks. The Nuts counter with pitcher Alan Johnson (3-2, 3.17). The game starts at 7:05 PM and will be broadcast on radio at Magic 1340 AM, as well as on internet at www.JetHawks.com.

The JetHawks Clubhouse Show, a weekly talk show, airs live from Modesto from 5-6 PM on Magic 1340 and www.JetHawks.com. Special guest include JetHawks manager Chad Epperson and Modesto Bee sportswriter Brian Vanderbeek, who has covered California League baseball for eleven seasons, including the championship series in 2004 between Lancaster and Modesto.

Great tickets for most JetHawks home games are available now. Contact the JetHawks box office by phone at (661) 726-5400 or online at www.JetHawks.com.
