Odessa Signs Former Appalachian State DL

ODESSA, TX: The Odessa Roughnecks additionally announced on Thursday, March 12 that the team has acquired former Appalachian State DL Daniel Orlebar. Orlebar (6'3", 295 lbs.) is scouted as a very quick defensive tackle who has the ability to make several plays in the open field. His large frame clogs the middle of the line and Orlebar became well-known at ASU for stopping the run.

Orlebar entered his senior season ('06) at Appalachian State at first string defensive tackle. He finished 2006 with 65 total tackles (2.0 TFL), two sacks, five quarterback hurries, and two fumble recoveries. In 2005, Orlebar appeared in 14 games mainly as a reserved defensive tackle. He tallied 21 tackles (2.5 TFL) and registered four tackles in the playoffs, including two in the opening-round win over Lafayette. Orlebar excelled in the classroom throughout 2005, and he was named to ASU's academic honor roll and was a academic All-Southern Conference honoree.

In 2004, Orlebar recorded 13 tackles in seven games played. He registered multiple tackles in four of the seven games played including a four-tackle performance against No. 2 Georgia Southern. Before Appalachian State, Orlebar spent two years at Wake Forest (ACC) where sat out the entire 2002 season (red-shirt) and saw limited playing time in 2003 after moving from defensive line to offensive line.

Orlebar's outstanding high school career while at DeMatha Catholic was capped off by leading the team to an 11-0 season, a conference championship, and No. 1 area ranking. He played over 90 snaps per game at both defensive and offensive tackle. Orlebar tallied 85 total tackles, five sacks and a fumble recovery as a senior. He was rated as the No. 16 defensive player in the state of Maryland according to SuperPrep. He was an All-Metro selection at offensive tackle according to The Washington Post and The Journal. He was named to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference First-Team at defensive tackle, and also named to the 2001 All-County defensive team by the Star/Gazette newspaper. Orlebar also earned AP First Team All-State honors for his defensive play and was a consensus All-State First Team defensive choice.
