Orange County Flyers News Release
Pitcher Chris Jakubauskas is on his way to the Seattle Mariner's farm system as the 2006 GBL Pitcher of the Year has his contract acquired by the Seattle Mariners after an impressive 6-0 start with the Lincoln Salt Dogs of the American Association this season.
Jakubauskas led his Fullerton (Now OC) Flyers to the GBL Championship Series last year before they eventually fell to the Reno Silver Sox. He went 8-1 during the regular season with a 3.09 E.R.A. The GBL placed him on a Colombia Winter League team in the off-season where he continued to impress. Prior to spring training, the Flyers traded him to the Lincoln Salt Dogs to give him an opportunity for more exposure.
Apparently, he found the American Association hitters to be even easier to handle as he started out with six straight wins, an E.R.A. of 2.42 and a paltry batting average against him of just .177. This was more than enough to catch the eye of the Seattle Mariners where, after five years of only independent professional experience, the 28 year-old in now with a major league organization.
