Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release

Fargo (ND) Fargo-Moorhead Jets' goaltender B.J. O'Brien has been named the co-defensive player of the week in the North American Hockey League, for the week ending March 12. It's the third time the 20-year old veteran has earned the honor, as he also won the award after the season's first week of play back in September and again in mid December.

O'Brien won the goaltender during the FM Jets' weekend sweep of the Minnesota Blizzard at the Carlson Coliseum on March 10 and 11. On March 10, O'Brien turned aside 27 of 28 shots in the FM Jets' 3-1 victory. He followed that with a 34 save shutout over Minnesota on March 11 in which the FM Jets won 4-0. It is O'Brien's sixth shutout of the season which is the second most in the NAHL.

Over the two games, O'Brien had a .983% save percentage.

A Lakeville, MN native, O'Brien spent last season with the NAHL's Central Texas Marshals. He didn't win a game at Central Texas, a team which floundered in the South Division cellar, but has made that a distant memory by helping to backstop the FM Jets' to first place in the Central Division.

Ironically, O'Brien shared the honor with Southern Minnesota goaltender Nick Hopper. The FM Jets currently lead Southern Minnesota by two points for first place in the Central Division with a crucial meeting between the clubs coming up Friday at 7:05pm at the Carlson Coliseum.

The FM Jets are the 2005 Borne Cup Champions and are in their third season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 30th year of operation.

Jets home games are played at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND. All games are broadcast at 103.9 THE TRUCK and fmjets.com.
