Oakland Roots News Release
Oakland, CA - Oakland Roots sign Modesto-raised left back Travian Sousa ahead of the USL Championship playoff push. The transaction was complete prior to the Championship's official roster freeze last Friday. The Defender, who just turned 20, was most recently part of Sporting KC II team in the USL having been signed to start the 2021 season.
"We are excited to add such a young player with great potential to the team as we head down the stretch run of the season," said Roots VP of Soccer Eric Yamamoto. "Travian has shown tremendous ability at the US Youth National Team levels over the past decade."
Sousa has previously spent time in Germany with Hamburger SV. He signed a professional contract with the club, making 14 appearances with the team's U-19s. Sousa also made a pair of appearances for Hamburger SV II in the Regionalliga Nord during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He played 90 minutes with the Bundesliga 2 first-team in a friendly against Braunschweig in October 2019.
Sousa has represented the US Youth National Team at the U-14, U-19 and U-20 levels.
