Orlando Rays News Release
Zebulon, NC - The Orlando offense had been frustrated at every turn over the last two games but got the chance to turn the tables Wednesday, pounding out 15 hits en route to a 11-6 win over the league-leading Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium.
After being blanked for the previous two games, the Orlando offense was a dam waiting to burst. Once they pushed the first run across in the fourth inning the gates opened as the Rays pushed 10 runs across over their next five innings, including eight runs over the final three frames.
Frank Moore and Amado German led the Rays' attack with three hits apiece, while Pete LaForest drove in three runs for Orlando (19-26). Antonio Perez went 2-4 with a triple and three runs scored while Matt Diaz and Dan DeMent each drove in two runs for Orlando.
Jim Magrane (4-2) picked up the win despite allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits through 6.0 innings. Travis Minix, Mark Malaska and Evan Rust combined to toss three innings of shutout relief, with Malaska striking out 3 in 1.2 IP.
The Rays and Mudcats conclude the four-game series tomorrow at 7:15, with RHP Jose Veras (0-4, 4.00) taking the mound for the Rays against RHP Randy Messenger (2-3, 6.57).
Rays Notes:
