Mobile BayBears News Release
Jacksonville, Fla.--The Mobile BayBears were shutout for the second straight game in Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon, losing to the Jacksonville Suns 4-0. The BayBears have lost four straight games.
Mobile managed just one base hit in the game, a third inning double by Vince Faison. After being shutout on two hits in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, Mobile has gone 25 straight innings without scoring a run.
"Our guys are not going up there with a plan," said BayBears manager Craig Colbert of his team's approach at the plate. "They see how (the Suns) are pitching our guys. They are pretty much pitching all of our hitters the same way and we are not making adjustments."
Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against BayBears starting pitcher Roger Deago (3-2), who was making his first start since returning from the major leagues. Victor Diaz singled in Jason Repko from second to get the Suns on the board before Deago pitched out of a bases-loaded, no out jam.
It was still a 1-0 game before Deago faltered in the seventh inning, allowing a two run double to Tony Socorras. The Suns added a third run in the inning on a throwing error by BayBears reliever Mike Bumstead.
Mobile had only four base runners in the game as three Jacksonville pitchers combined to allow only Faison's hit while giving up two walks and hitting a batter.
The loss drops Mobile to 17-27 on the season. They will close out the roadtrip at 6:05 PM on Thursday at Jacksonville. Steve Watkins (2-3) will pitch for Mobile.
The BayBears open an eight game homestand against Birmingham at 7:05 PM Friday at Hank Aaron Stadium.
