HUNTSVILLE, ALA -- Jon Switzer tossed six solid innings and Dan Grummit had three RBI to help the Orlando Rays earn a 6-5 victory over the Huntsville Stars. Switzer (1-0) allowed two runs and four hits while striking out six and walking two en route to his first win of the season. Grummit belted a two-run homer in the first inning for a 3-0 lead and added an RBI single in the fifth before coming around after an error by relief pitcher Ryan Miller, making it 5-2. Jonny Gomes scored his team's final run on a wild pitch by Miller for Orlando, which dropped a 6-5 decision to Huntsville earlier in the day in the completion of a suspended game. Matt Diaz collected three hits and added an RBI for the Rays and Bartolome Fortunato tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his first save.
Chris Cosbey went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and three other players added an RBI apiece for the Stars, who have dropped three of four. Ben Hendrickson (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs and eight hits in just four innings. The Rays finished their first road trip at 4-3 and head back to Orlando for their home opener Friday night at 7:05 against the Tennessee Smokies. Friday's promotional giveaway is a team schedule magnet, while Saturday's highlights include an official All-Star cafe plastic cup for fans 21 and older, a celebrity softball game featuring retired MLBand NFL greats, as well as local celebrities, and the post-game fireworks show.
