Mudcats Trio Tosses No-Hitter
April 10, 2003 - Southern League (SL1) News Release
MARIETTA, GA â On a cold and wet night in Zebulon, NC three Carolina Mudcats combined to throw the first no-hitter of the Southern League season and the second in Mudcats' franchise history. Ryan Snare, Steve Kent, and Ryan Baker combined to no-hit the Mobile BayBears 1-0, pitching the first combined no-hitter in the Southern League since Birmingham Barons' Mike Porzio, Matt Beaumont, and Brian Tokarse beat the Tennessee Smokies 5-0 on April 5, 2001.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Snare threw five scoreless innings, striking out six and walking three before Kent retired all three batters he faced in the sixth inning to pick up the win. Baker got two groundball outs before striking out the final hitter to complete the masterpiece and earn his second save of the season. It was the first time in the BayBears' seven-year history they have been no hit.
