Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
O.J. Brigance will be honored as the Hometown Hero on July 8, when the IronBirds return home to take on the Staten Island Yankees. Brigance won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000 and was diagnosed with ALS in 2007.
Brigance has since created a foundation called Brigance Brigade to help raise funds and awareness about ALS throughout the country. While the foundation's ultimate goal is a world without ALS, their mission until a cure is found is to help in any way possible. This includes a place to turn for answers after a diagnosis and financial assistance for those who may not be able to afford necessary treatments or equipment.
The IronBirds' Hometown Hero program recognizes a person in the Baltimore-area that is considered to be a hero by the fans. Nominations are accepted throughout the year and voted on by the fans on the IronBirds website. The winners are honored on the field before the game and get to take the line-up card to home plate with the manager.
The IronBirds are proud to partner with Brigance Brigade on July 8 to help raise awareness for their cause. First pitch for the contest is a 7:05 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at IronBirdsBaseball.com or at the IronBirds' Ticket Office.
