'NYS Lottery af2 Cup' on the Line

(Rochester, NY)- Thursday, the Rochester Brigade and the Albany Conquest will be battling for more than a playoff berth and a chance to clinch the Division title; the two teams will be battling for the "NYS Lottery af2 Cup."

The cup is an interstate championship between Rochester and Albany, where the winner of each regular season meeting earns the right to take the cup back to their hometown. To date the two teams have split the season series, each winning on the other team's turf. The deciding game for the 2002 season championship is this Thursday, June 20, at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Brigade has cherished the title for the past eight weeks after winning the last meeting 32 to 24 on April 27. The Conquest marked their win 42 to 36 during the teams' first encounter on April 13. The winner of this game will have rights to the "Cup" for the entire off-season until the Brigade and the Conquest meet again in 2003.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to play Rochester again," stated Conquest fullback/linebacker Matt Vittengl, on playing Rochester. "They took something from us (NYS Lottery af2 Cup) in our house, and we want to show them that their win in Albany was a fluke."

The "Cup" is simply icing on the cake, as this game is also for a division title. If the Conquest wins, they will clinch the Northeast Division title and gain home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Conversely, the Brigade needs to win to stay ahead of third place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, who are red hot and right on the heels of Rochester. The Brigade must remain focused on Thursday and the last four games of the season, as those potential wins are crucial to keep the team's playoff hopes alive.
