NWSL Announces Asset Selection Order for Expansion Sides Bay FC, Utah Royals FC Ahead of 2024 Expansion Draft
Published on June 28, 2023 under National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
NEW YORK - The National Women's Soccer League today announced the asset selection order for incoming expansion clubs Bay FC and Utah Royals FC ahead of the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft presented by Ally and the 2024 NWSL Draft presented by Ally.
The selection order for both the NWSL Draft and the NWSL Expansion Draft was determined via a random generator during a meeting involving members of the league and representatives from both teams.
Securing the first choice in the asset selection process, the Utah Royals selected priority in the NWSL Draft. As a result, the team will have pick No. 1 in both the first and third rounds of the draft, while Bay FC will select first in rounds two and four.
Bay FC will have the first pick in the NWSL Expansion Draft, which will alternate between the two clubs through 12 rounds.
Additionally, the Royals selected priority in the Discovery Order ranking, which outlines the order of teams that is used to determine which team receives priority when competing discovery requests are made simultaneously for a discovery-eligible player. The club also elected to receive priority in the Waiver Wire order when two or more teams attempt to acquire the rights of an NWSL player who has been released by their team.
Bay FC received priority in the Distribution Order, allowing the club to make the first selection among eligible U.S. Women's National Team players who are not currently in the NWSL, but have chosen to enter the league.
Further details regarding the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft presented by Ally and the 2024 NWSL Draft presented by Ally are forthcoming.
