Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

The New Year is here! Happy New Year everyone! We start the brand new year with the toughest part of our schedule starting with tonight's game against the St. Louis Bandits. The first (next) eleven games, to start 2010 are against either the Bandits, who are in second place in the Southern Division, or the Topeka Roadrunners who are in first place in our Southern Division. With a lucky bounce here or there, or healthy players and team focus, the Jr. Blues can either make up a lot of ground in the standings or take themselves out of any real contention going into the playoffs. We're believing the former along with other good things for this team for the rest of the season. Believe along with us here in Springfield and we'll think positive for good things to come. Game time in a few minutes so, Let's Go Blues!

Hiyo Silver! Man, 32 seconds into the game and the Rocket (aka Jared Rickord) scored and the Jr. Blues were off and running. It is St. Louis though and they keep coming at you. Before long it was 1 - 1, then we went up 2 - 1. They came back to tie and a minute thirty later the Bandits scored again to take a 3 - 2 lead into the locker room at the first intermission. That's not so bad, but Mike Schaber took a hard shot to the top of the foot and the good guys have another injury. We don't know at first intermission if he will play again tonight or the rest of the weekend for that matter. Another injury in an ever increasing list of injuries plaguing the team this year. We'll hope Mike's injury isn't serious. Look out if this team ever has everyone healthy! Let's hope the boys come out and score quickly like they started this game. It's time for the second period.

Ho Hum! What seemed like an extremely long period finally came to an end with no change in the score. Coach Jeff Brown was upset about something, but that's nothing unusual. He didn't win his argument with the referee, but it gave everyone a breather. It was mostly crazy bounces and some not so great passing. It's almost like they were playing on the same ice that was in Fenway Park for the Winter Classic this afternoon. We took some complaints from folks watching the b2 network tonight and all I can tell everyone is I have a substitute camera guy tonight and it's his very first time running the camera. Our usual camera person took a vacation to Hawaii without my permission. Oh, they didn't need my permission, but it's tough to operate the camera the very first time. I hope everyone will be a little patient. We have had more than our usual b2 problems tonight, some of which weren't on out end of things, so it has been a little hectic up here in the booth.

We just got word that Nick "the Wizard" Curry suffered a concussion during the second period so he won't be back any more tonight. The injuries just keep coming. So does the third period. Let's Go Blues!

And once again the Jr. Blues lose a one goal game to the St. Louis Bandits. They played hard during period three, but St. Louis just out played the good guys. The same two teams meet at 7:00pm tomorrow night for another go at it. The Jr. Blues played hard, but maybe a bit of rust showed? I'm not sure, but we'll see tomorrow night if they can get over the hump and take a victory home. Stay tuned and let's hope for the best.
