NSC Minnesota Stars Look to Rebound Saturday Against FC Tampa Bay
May 27, 2011 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
After losing 2-1 at FC Edmonton on Monday, the NSC Minnesota Stars look for a change of pace in their next game against FC Tampa Bay this Saturday, May 28, at NSC Stadium. The Stars will be entering the game with a 3-2-3 record, having been bumped down to third in the standings after Monday night's loss, but buoyed by their unbeaten home record in 2011 that reached a peak a week and a half ago with a 2-0 win against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
Monday's game at Edmonton started out with the Stars in the lead after a header goal from Simone Bracalello, but a goal from FC Edmonton's Kyle Porter tied the game at 1-1 only a minute later. In the second half Porter scored again for Edmonton, who played well to closeout a 2-1 victory.
This Saturday will be the Stars' first game of the season against FCTB. With a fresh season in play, the Stars hope to continue a shutout streak against Tampa that began more than a year ago. The Stars posted two 1-0 wins against FCTB in 2010, and continuing this streak would lift the Stars back into second place in the North American Soccer League. The Stars confidence will also be boosted by a shutout streak at home of more than 225 minutes dating back to May 7.
Stars midfielder Ely Allen has a two-game point streak going after assisting in back-to-back games. While Allen's offensive contributions have stood out on the score sheet, the Stars will continue to rely on their outside midfielders, Allen and Lucas Rodriguez, to provide cover on defense when outside backs Chris Clements and Justin Davis make runs forward.
The FC Tampa Bay team currently holds two previous Minnesota Stars players. Centerback Andres Arango was the captain of the Minnesota Stars last season before moving on to play for Tampa Bay. Forward Warren Ukah also played for the Stars last season. Unfortunately for Stars fans looking to reconnect, neither Ukah nor Arango will make FCTB's trip to Blaine.
Tickets are available for Saturday's game in all seating areas. To order tickets, call the Stars ticket office at (763) 792-7355 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, or visit NSCMinnesotaTickets.com. Ticket prices start at just $6 in advance for youth age 17 and younger, $12 for adults.
