Minnesota United FC News Release
Playing AC St. Louis for the fourth time this season, the NSC Minnesota Stars pro soccer team came from behind twice to salvage a 2-2 draw against their closest USSF Division 2 rival. Playing at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in St. Louis for the first time this season, the Stars overcame a sloppy effort by both teams to grab one valuable point in the league standings.
St. Louis got on the board first, in the 42nd minute, as Luke Kreamalmeyer drilled a hard shot from the left side past Stars goalkeeper Joe Warren. Simone Bracalello and Melvin Tarley had earlier chances for the Stars, but both teams were inefficient on offense.
The Stars upped the pressure immediately after the intermission. Kevin Friedland had the best chance, in the 48th minute, but he chipped the ball just over the goal. The score stayed 1-0 until the final 10 minutes of the game.
Off a free kick, Friedland fed it to Melvin Tarley to bring the Stars back to even, in the 83rd minute. It was Tarley's second goal of the season.
But St. Louis jumped back on top just three minutes later. After a foul in the box, Kreamalmeyer scored on a penalty kick to record his second goal of the game.
But the fireworks weren't done. Brian Cvilikas scored in the 90th minute for the Stars to salvage the draw. It was Cvilikas' fifth goal of the season, top on the team.
The NSC Minnesota Stars continue their inaugural season in the USSF Division 2 League when they travel to PGE Park in Portland for an August 11 game against the MLS-bound Portland Timbers. Their next home game is August 14 against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Kickoff will be 7:00 p.m. at the NSC Stadium in Blaine.
