Match Story:

The Halifax Wanderers Football Club returns to Canadian Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they host Valour FC at the Wanderers Grounds.

Halifax enters the match after a 2-0 loss on the road against Atletico Ottawa on June 3.

Following that draw, Halifax is currently in 8th place in the league with six points.

The Wanderers enter the weekend following the exciting news that 2021 CPL MVP João Morelli has been cleared to return to the squad following a knee injury.

Four players have found the back of the net in 2023. Zachary Fernandez and Theo Collomb have scored twice, while Massimo Ferrin and Aidan Daniels each have one goal in league play.

Valour FC is currently in 5th place, holding a record of one win, six draws and one loss. They come in off a 1-1 draw against York United on June 4.

Following today's match, the Wanderers continue the homestand by hosting Cavalry FC on Saturday, June 17.

Captains:

Andre Rampersad retains the captain's armband for the 2023 campaign. This is Rampersad's fourth season as team captain. Ryan James and Mohamed Omar are the Wanderers' assistant captains.

Coaches:

2023 is the first season with Patrice Gheisar as the Halifax Wanderers' Head Coach. Gheisar was hired in late 2022 after leading Vaughan Azzurri in League1 Ontario to an undefeated season and league championship. Joining Gheisar is assistant coach Jorden Feliciano, who was Gheisar's assistant coach at Vaughan. Jed Davies is another new face in 2023 who is also an assistant coach. Davies' experience in professional football includes stops with USL teams Ottawa Fury and Miami FC, where he served as an assistant coach. Most recently, he served as head of player and coach development for Futuro Academy in Ottawa, ON. Jan-Michael Williams returns as the Wanderers goalkeeper coach.
