Norwich Swims Past Bravehearts

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Norwich Sea Unicorns 10-0 on Father's Day at Fitton Field.

The loss drops Worcester's overall record to 13-7, while Norwich's record elevates to 11-11. The Bravehearts remain in second place in the Futures League standings.

After a scoreless first inning, Norwich broke the game open in the top of the second. Matthew Bucciero (Fairfield) came home on an error to score the first run. Norwich then tacked on a second run, followed by a bases-clearing double by Jackson Ferrigno (Northern Alabama) which brought in an additional three runs. A single hit by Matthew Bucciero during his second at-bat of the inning scored two more runs, giving the Sea Unicorns a 7-0 lead.

Norwich tacked on two additional runs in the sixth, with Joey Agar (Mount St. Mary's) scoring on a single by Johnny Knox (Nichols) and the second run scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Sea Unicorns scored their final run in the seventh when Jayson Kramer (Mount St. Mary's) scored on an additional sacrifice fly, giving the Sea Unicorns a 10-run lead which ended the game by mercy rule per Futures League guidelines.

Norwich starter Matt Wootton (Eastern Conn. State) earned the win, with no runs and three hits let up in four innings. The loss went to the Bravehearts' Jack Martinez (Trinity [TX]), who allowed seven runs (four earned), and four hits in two innings.

The Bravehearts will face the Nashua Silver Knights on Tuesday at Holman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
