Northern Arizona Wranglers News Release

McMeans, 6'2", 320 lbs., brings prior Indoor Football League experience, as McMeans most recently played for the Wranglers in-state rival, the Arizona Rattlers, during the 2022 season. Prior to his time with the Rattlers, McMeans also played for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football League in 2019. McMeans then spent two seasons in the Arena Football League. In 2019, McMeans was a member of the Columbus Destroyers, and played for the Washington Valor in 2018. During his time with the Valor, McMeans played alongside Wranglers current offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Rod Windsor. McMeans also participated in the Los Angeles Rams Rookie Minicamp, in 2017, prior to his indoor transition.

McMeans played his first two years of college football at Arizona Western College, in Yuma, Ariz., then transferred to New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, N.M., for his next two seasons. When playing at Arizona Western, McMeans was a member of the 2014 squad that won the El Toro Bowl. Upon transfering to New Mexico State, McMeans provided an immediate impact earning a Sunbelt Conference All-American honorable mention, in 2015, as a junior. McMeans was named to the Sunbelt Conference All-American Second Team, as a senior, in 2016.

After his senior season with the Aggies, McMeans participated in the National Football League Players Association Collegiate Bowl, which is an all-star game for NFL draft eligible players.

McMeans grew up in Greenville, Ala., and played football at Greenville High School. McMeans was inspired to play football, as a kid, by his family. McMeans has an uncle that played basketball internationally, and he wanted to get involved in athletics as a way out for his family. McMeans gravitated to football, and stated that he wanted to "be a hero for my family." McMeans comes from a lower income family, and always sought out to provide, and give back to them.

McMeans now has a daughter of his own, who is six-years-old, and does not want to give up playing the sport he loves. McMeans wants to make it to the highest level of play that he can, and he strives to motivate others in his efforts. McMeans has spent time coaching offensive lineman in high school, and will be involved in the game well beyond his playing days.

Regarding joining the Wranglers, McMeans stated that "It feels like a perfect fit." McMeans expanded by stating that Northern Arizona holds an "underdog mentality," despite coming off a National Championship victory. McMeans has always felt like an underdog, and feels that many will still not take the Wranglers as seriously as the established Rattlers franchise.

McMeans has a great relationship with Coach Windsor, from playing together for the Valor in 2018. McMeans is excited to work with Windsor as a coach, stating, "I know how Rod approaches the game." McMeans stated, "I am a team guy, and Northern Arizona is all about what the team can do; I love the mentality."
