North Texas Fresh Announce Tryout For 2010

April 21, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
North Texas Fresh News Release

Fort Worth - The North Texas Fresh started out their inaugural season unknown who would be the players to make them a successful franchise. It wasn't until the first tryouts (May 20, 2009) when Brandon Perry, Carzel "Moose" Wynn, and Robert Taylor showed their extraordinary talents and was picked up for training camp.

Other names like, Raphael Johnson, Maurice "Snoop" Williams, Jack Lind, Jesse Haynes, and Zack Vanselow may ring bells as well as they were also picked up at camp and 3 out of the 5 suited up during the Fresh regular season.

"Tryouts are held for players who are under the radar and want us to provide them the opportunity to get to the next level," stated CEO Jay Bowdy. "40% of the players that came into tryouts were picked up for training camp. I know that's a great feeling for those athletes who want that opportunity and know that there are more than 1 or 2 spots available."

The 1st tryouts last year provided the Fresh with Robert Taylor; a former basketball player at University of Texas in Arlington. Robert Taylor was the Fresh starting center while only standing 6'5 and was selected to the ALL - ABA Rookie Team and Honorable Mention All - Southwest Division after averaging 15.4 points, and 13.9 rebounds per game.

Brandon Perry and Carzel "Moose" Wynn were also great additions to the Fresh lineup as they combined for 24 points, 11 assists, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Perry led the Fresh in 3 point percentage; shooting 63.8% from behind the arc.

"It was a blessing to have these 3 guys," stated Bowdy. "When I stepped down from Coach to Player they made adjustments for me and dealt with my battles in getting back to my old playing days. I couldn't ask for better players as they had faith in me and in this franchise and that's what we are looking for in this tryout......players with faith and heart more than just players with talent.

The Fresh will have tryouts on Saturday, May 29th following a game on the 30th for the tryout players against an ABA Southwest Division Team to test their skills in regular game play. The tryouts will be held at a private location in the Tarrant County area and players will need to register for tryouts on the North Texas Fresh website in order to receive location details and itinerary.

Tryouts will only cost $75 compared to $150 from last year. Players registering at the door will have to pay $100. This fee will cover tryouts for Saturday with the opportunity for game play on Sunday against an ABA opponent. Concession and merchandise will be available for spectators.

For more information on the May 29th tryouts please contact the Fresh by email at northtexasfresh@yahoo.com and/or register to tryout online for location details.
