North Dakota rivalry renewed this weekend
November 3, 2005 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) There is light at the end of the Fargo-Moorhead Jets seven-game road trip and it will come this weekend when the North American Hockey League's North Dakota Rivalry in renewed.
The FM Jets (11-3-0) face their arch-rivals the Bismarck Bobcats (5-7-2) in a home and home series this weekend. After opening the series Friday night at Bismarck, the series will shift to the John E. Carlson Coliseum for a 7pm face-off on Saturday night.
Saturday's home game will end a seven game road trip for the FM Jets, who are so far 3-3-0 on the road swing. However, the .500 road record isn't something Jets' head coach Chad Johnson is sitting on.
"Anyone can play hard and win at home, the making of a very good team is how they respond on the road" commented Johnson during the team's trip to Montana last weekend.
Over the course of the past two seasons, the FM Jets and Bismarck have developed one of the fiercest rivalries in the NAHL. However, the FM Jets have had the recent upper-hand, winning 12 of 15 meetings last season, and also opening the season by sweeping a pair of games at Bismarck Sept. 16 and 17.
The rivalry had spice added to it this season when the FM Jets' hired Johnson to be their head coach. Johnson had been the head coach for Bismarck the previous four seasons -winning two Borne Cup Championships - but was let go at the end of last season.
Still, Johnson is quick deflect attention to that aspect of the rivalry saying, "This league isn't about the coaches, it's about the players"
Team Poster Giveaway Saturday
The FM Jets will giveaway the first installment of their team posters on Saturday night.
The FM Jets are the 2005 Borne Cup Champions and are entering their third season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 30th year of operation.
Jets home games are played at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND. All games are broadcast at STAR 103.9 and fmjets.com.
