NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 17, 2002) ? Sedric Webber scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the North Charleston Lowgators to a 106-99 National Basketball Development League overtime victory over the Greenville Groove Sunday at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The victory improved North Charleston to 2-0 as 2,017 watched a rematch of last season's NBDL Finals. Greenville, the defending league champion, dropped to 0-2 on the young season.

With the scored tied at 92 at the end of regulation, Webber scored six of the Lowgators' 14 overtime points, including a pair of free throws with 48 seconds left to stretch the North Charleston lead to 100-97. A pair of free throws from Corey Benjamin with 1:07 to play gave the Lowgators the lead for good at 98-97.

"I was confident in overtime because I knew we had time to open up the court," North Charleston head coach Doug Marty said. "We went with a smaller, quicker lineup and Greenville went with a bigger lineup. Things worked out for us in the end."

The Lowgators won the game at the free throw line, converting 36-of-48 attempts, including 10-of-16 in the overtime period. Greenville was good on 24-of-37 free throw attempts in the game. The Groove shot 43-percent from the floor and the Lowgators 44-percent.

"It was a good, early-season game for both teams," Greenville head coach Tree Rollins said. "It's early in the season, and I'm going to give our players five games to adjust. We are sticking by the league motto to develop players."

North Charleston jumped to a 50-38 halftime lead, thanks largely to controlling the backboards. The Lowgators outrebounded Greenville 16-6 in the first quarter. North Charleston ended up winning the battle of the boards 48-41 over the course of the game.

"Greenville played hard and very well," Marty said. "We came out quickly, but it's so early in the season that we had a little lull and Greenville came back battling."

Greenville shot 55-percent from the floor in the third quarter to cut the Lowgators' lead to 67-66. Billy Thomas connected on 3-of-5 field goal attempts in the third period on the way to finishing with 24 points for the Groove.

Damone Brown scored 20 points off the North Charleston bench before fouling out with 2:41 left to play. Larry Reid also came off the bench to contribute 17 points, including hitting six consecutive field goals at one point in the second half. Benjamin chipped in 13 points.
