NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion will play its 2023-24 home opener at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, against the Barrie Colts, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Monday.
After opening its home schedule last year on Oct. 13, the latest date in franchise history, with a 3-1 victory over the Peterborough Petes, the eventual OHL champions, the Battalion embarks on its 10th-anniversary season as North Bay against Barrie, a Central Division rival.
For the first time since relocation from Brampton, other than in the pandemic-driven 2021-22 setup, the Battalion's schedule formula has undergone a change.
The Troops will face the East Division's Ottawa 67's six times, three at home and three away, and the Oshawa Generals only twice, once at home and once away, instead of four times each.
The change was made in light of the Hamilton Bulldogs' relocation, for at least three seasons, to become the Brantford Bulldogs. Division rivals Brantford and Ottawa will meet four times.
The full schedule is to be released Tuesday.
