North Adams, MA - Six one-hit innings from Brian Hunter (Hartford) propelled North Adams to a 5-2 win over the Swamp Bats. He did not give up a run while walking three and striking out six to hand Keene its first loss in the last four games.

Zachary Brian (St. Anselm) got the start for Keene, his first overall appearance in the NECBL this year.

North Adams took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks in large part to the speed of Jeff Roy (URI).Roy led off the inning with a base hit to right field. He then advanced to second on a balk from the Keene start Brien. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, he scored on a sacrifice fly from Charlie Law (Rutgers) to give North Adams a 1-0 lead.

The Steeplecats added another run in the bottom of the third inning. Roy led off with his second single of the game. He then made it to third after a throwing error from Brian on a pickoff attempt. Roy came around to score on the second sacrifice fly of the game for Law.

The lead was extended to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single for Conor Biggio (Notre Dame). Sheehan Planas-Arteaga (Barry) led off the inning with a walk, stole second base, and scored on the Biggio single.

North Adams added another run the next inning off a solo home run for Law. It is his seventh of the season. He finished the game with three runs batted in to give him 36 on the year.

Brian's day was done in the sixth inning after allowing the first runner to reach base. In his first start for Keene, he worked 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Keene started its comeback in the seventh with an RBI single for Cameron O'Brien (Louisville). Despite runners being on first and second with only one ou that was all the damage Keene was able to muster.

North Adams added an insurance run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to increase the lead to 5-1.

Fran Whitten (Maine) knocked his ninth home run of the season in the top of the ninth inning, but it was not enough. Law, who moved over from first base to pitcher to finish the game for North Adams, retired the final couple of batters of the game to finish off the Swamp Bats.

With the win, North Adams improves to 21-17 on the season, while Keene falls to 26-12.

The Swamp Bats will have Sunday off and return to action on Monday against the Danbury Westerners. A win against Danbury will clinch the division for Keene. First pitch at Rogers Park is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
