Norfolk Tides News Release
The Tides homered twice during a seven-run second inning as they cruised to an 8-5 win over Charlotte Saturday night at Harbor Park.
Trailing 1-0, Norfolk sent 10 men to the plate in the second frame as they collected six hits and set a season-high with seven runs in the inning. Brandon Snyder got the Tides on the board with a two-run homer off Jeffrey Marquez (2-8), and Jeff Fiorentino capped the scoring with a three-run blast with two outs in the inning to give the Tides a 7-1 advantage.
Marquez is now 0-4 with a 13.21 ERA in four starts against the Tides this season.
The run support was more than enough for Tides starter Jake Arrieta (3-3), who earned the victory after yielding three runs - one earned - on six hits in five innings of work. Arrieta walked three and struck out five, helping the Tides win their third straight over Charlotte.
Brandon Pinckney and Melvin Dorta each had three hits in the win, while Justin Turner singled twice to up his average to .303 on the season.
The Tides and Knights will wrap up their five-game, four-day series on Sunday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 6:15. Andy Mitchell (7-2, 3.90) will take the mound for Norfolk against Bartolo Colon (1-0, 1.50), who will be making his second rehab start for Charlotte.
