Las Vegas Aviators News Release

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced that the Hideo Nomo game worn and autographed 51s jersey (No. 57) was recently auctioned on eBay by the 51s and sold for $2,080. The net proceeds of $1,770.84 will be donated to the Nevada chapter of the ALS association.

ALS - Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disorder that attacks certain nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord. With all voluntary muscle action affected, patients in the later stages are totally paralyzed, unable to speak, swallow or breathe. Yet, through it all, their minds remain unaffected. First identified in 1869, the cause and cure of ALS are as yet unknown. For further information on ALS, visit the web site at: http://www.alsnevada.org.

Nomo, a member of the National League West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, started in four Major League rehabilitation games with the 51s this past season. The right-hander was 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched. Nomo's two starts at Sacramento (Aug. 16) and at Salt Lake (Aug. 21) was the jersey that served as the auction item on eBay.

The 51s open the 2005 season on Thursday, April 7 at Colorado Springs. The home opener is Friday, April 15, against Colorado Springs, at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. Season tickets and mini-plan packages are on sale for the 2005 season. For further information regarding 51s baseball, call 798-7825.

Official licensed team merchandise is still available by calling (702) 386-8884 or on the 51s team website.
