MILWAUKEE (Jan. 15, 2010) - Two of the Wave's most iconic talents return to Milwaukee next Saturday to participate in festivities surrounding the Wave Homecoming game on Jan. 23.
Widely considered the greatest indoor goalkeeper in history, Victor Nogueira was a two-time league MVP, a nine-time Goalkeeper of the Year and a nine-time all-star in 11 seasons with the Wave. Nogueira is a 2010 nominee for the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Also scheduled to return to Milwaukee for the weekend is Greg Howes. A three-time league MVP, Howes led the Wave in scoring six consecutive years (2003-2008). In five of those seasons, he topped the league in scoring. Howes stands second on the Wave's all-time goals scored list with 311.
The Wave host Baltimore at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Former goalkeeper Tony Pierce and "First Fan" Louise Au will be inducted into the 2010 class of the Wave Hall of Fame, and they will be joined by members of the inaugural class which consists of Nogueira, Pete Knezic, Art Kramer, Todd Dusosky, Steve Morris and Michael King. The Wave will also honor the 2000 and 2005 league championship teams.
"We look forward to honoring the members of the two Wave championship teams who are celebrating reunions," said Peter Wilt, president and CEO of the Wave. "Victor and Greg coming in from out of town for this homecoming is indicative of how special these teams were and how close they remain."
This weekend, Milwaukee plays the Rockford Rampage in a home-and-home series Saturday and Sunday. Rockford hosts the game at 7 p.m. Saturday, and the return engagement is 2 p.m. Sunday at "The Cell." Grammy-nominated Christian artist Matthew West plays a postgame concert on the field immediately following the game. For tickets or information, call 414-224-9283.
