Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
With 76 seconds remaining, the Indiana Ice put in a game-tying goal, then defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks 3-2 in overtime Wednesday.
Mike Cichy fired the winning score under the crossbar during a power play at 2:11 of the extra period. Shane Berschbach was responsible for evening the game in the closing minutes, swiping a puck and converting a breakaway opportunity. Joe Howe appeared to have made the save, but the puck trickled through his pads and into the net.
Waterloo had taken the lead at 15:12 of the third when George Hughes scored on the eighth Black Hawk power play of the night. The Hawks had pulled ahead for the first time when Brock Montpetit set up a Ben Miller redirection at 16:23 of the opening period. The Ice made it a 1-1 game 52 seconds into the second on Zach Golembiewski's power play tally.
The Black Hawks play two at home this weekend, hosting the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday, then the Chicago Steel on Saturday. The first 1,000 fans Friday will receive Iwireless Black Hawks player cards. Saturday the first 500 can pick up a Black Hawks/Hy-Vee reusable grocery tote.
