Nippon Tornadoes touch down in Portland

June 4, 2013 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Portland Chinooks News Release

The Portland Chinooks of the International Basketball League will meet the talented and entertaining Nippon Tornadoes of Japan in two thrilling games this weekend in Eastmoreland. This will truly be an international showdown. It's the first of five regular season meetings between the squads.

Portland is looking to keep in their winning ways and make a push for the playoffs next month. The Tornadoes are looking to take advantage of the road weary Chinooks, who are coming of a grueling, but successful road trip.

Without former Oregon State forward David Lucas and Portland State guard Mike Harthun, Portland held their own against one of the IBL's newest members, the LoneStar Strikers of Texas. The IBL's top scorer, Jared Cunningham, was the go-to man. He led his team to a dramatic 113-112 win on Sunday with the game-winning basket.

The win vaulted the Chinooks (5-5) ahead of rival Salem in the Continental Conference standings. Portland is now in possession of the third spot.

The Chinooks play their final nine games of the regular season at Eastmoreland. They're looking for win three in a row and to get over .500 for the first time this season. Nippon eyes an end to their four-game losing streak.

Come out and bring the family as the Chinooks continue their assault on the International Basketball League. Tip-off on Friday, June 7th is 7:00pm. These teams will meet again two days later, Sunday, June 9th at 5:00pm. See International Basketball League action at its best at the home of the Chinooks, Eastmoreland Courts (3015 SE Berkeley Place, Portland, OR, 97202) off Johnson Creek and McLoughlin Blvd.

Tickets are still available and you can buy yours here . Can't make the games? Watch and listen online with Jeremy Scott.
