Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short

Wilmington, North Carolina-The Wilmington Sharks did not get on the scoreboard until the ninth inning of Friday night's game. It was not enough in a 3-1 loss to the Wilson Tobs at Buck Hardee Field. With the loss, the Sharks saw their losing streak extend to nine games.
Sharks starter Garrett McDaniels got off to a good start and struck out the side in the first. He ultimately lasted five innings, giving up only three runs off six hits. His strikeout total ultimately reached seven on the night.
The Tobs figured him out in the fourth when Hunter Gore led off the inning with a solo home run to put the Tobs up 1-0. The Tobs then began the fifth with four consecutives singles resulting in another run. Jared Carr grounded into a double play to score another run and make it 3-0. McDaniels then struck out Gore to get out of the inning with minimal damage.
Cameron Reeves began the sixth in relief for the Sharks and pitched four shutout innings to keep the Sharks within striking distance. He gave up only two hits and struck out eight. Tobs starter Chandler Coates gave up four hits in six innings of shutout ball and recorded six strike outs. Josh Arnold and Taylor Sloper each followed with a scoreless inning in relief.
Jake Plastiak began a rally for the Sharks when he hit his seventh home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the ninth. His home run trimmed the deficit to 3-1 James Parker followed with a double. Tobs closer CJ Gonzales set the Sharks down in order after that to complete the save.
The Sharks will complete the first half of the season Saturday night against the Fayetteville SwampDogs at JP Riddle Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM. The Sharks will return to the Shark Tank Tuesday night against the SwampDogs for another Postgame Fireworks Extravaganza. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6:00PM.
