New Haven, CT (May 31st, 2002)- The New Haven Ninjas claimed the Constitution Cup for the 2002 season by defeating the Mohegan Wolves 32-29 Friday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena. It was the third time the two teams have met with New Haven winning two of the three games.

The Wolves jumped out to an early 14-0 lead with touchdowns by Brent Burnside, a 41-yard reception from Cable Davis, and a Ben LaBelle 2-yard run. Unfortunately for Mohegan, the Wolves would not score again until the 4th quarter.

New Haven scored 32 unanswered points before the Wolves could counter. Brent Burnside hauled in his second touchdown of the night, this time from 11 yards away, and Melvin Phillips added a 14-yard touchdown reception to pull the Wolves within 3 points. A late run by the Wolves ended on their final possession when Mohegan turned the ball over on downs with seven seconds remaining to seal their fate.

QB Jarrod Rouanzoin who passed for 4 touchdowns and 201 yards led New Haven. His featured target was again Anthony Comer. He had 7 receptions for 65 yards on the night. Ryan Bland and Chris Ortiz each added two touchdown receptions apiece. Ortiz was named Game MVP. He had 2 receptions for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brian Watson was named ADT Defensive player of the Game.

Mohegan QB Cable Davis passed for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns. Brent Burnside led all Mohegan receivers with 8 receptions for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Carlos McLaurin again led all tacklers with 5 on the night. Brandon Stoker was named Ironman of the Game. He had a sack and 3 ½ tackles.

Mohegan welcomes Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to town next Friday night. It is the first meeting with the Pioneers this season. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. next Friday, June 7th.
