Nine Players Score in Kansas City NWSL Scrimmage

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Kansas City NWSL saw nine different players score goals against Orlando FC Royals of United Womens Soccer in a preseason scrimmage on Saturday afternoon. Forwards Brittany Ratcliffe and Jaycie Johnson each had hat tricks, while forward Raisa Strom-Okimoto chipped in two goals in a 14-0 victory.

"It was good to play the game and get some action against another team," said Head Coach Huw Williams. "I was very pleased to see many of the concepts we've been working on this week show up in the scrimmage."

Kansas City started off strong with Amy Rodriguez assisting on goals to Maddie Nolf (1'), Darian Jenkins (5') and Michele Vasconcelos (9') before the game was 10 minutes deep. After midfielder Katie Bowen chipped in a score to the back post from 40 yards out (21'), Rodriguez tallied her own score (33') to put KC up 5-0 at the halftime break.

Coach Williams sent out a completely different lineup to start the second half. Led by Ratcliffe, Johnson and Strom-Okimoto, the team dominated the period. Capping off the scrimmage was a bending cross from the left foot of midfielder Ashley Nick right to Addie McCain, who muscled her way past a defender to score the final goal of the day.

Kansas City NWSL gets set for another week of warm-weather training in Port St. Lucie. The team will play a closed-door exhibition match against the Orlando Pride on Wednesday, March 3. The team's full exhibition schedule will be released next week.
