Nine Florida Flame Players Participating in 2004 NBA Training Camps

FORT MYERS, Fla., October 5 – The NBDL announced today that nine current and former Charleston Lowgators have earned spots on 2004 NBA training camp rosters. The Florida Flame acquired the Charleston Lowgators on May 24, 2004. A total of 52 players from the NBDL's first three seasons are participating in vet camps around the NBA. These players are trying to win roster spots for the opening night of the NBA, which begins on November 2nd.

The group is highlighted by 2004 NBDL MVP Tierre Brown. Currently training with the Los Angeles Lakers in Hawaii, Tierre Brown averaged 18.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 6.5 apg during his award-winning season last year with the league. Brown has been called-up to 10-day contracts with the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Hornets during his stint with the NBDL.

Jason Miskiri, who is currently training with the Utah Jazz, averaged 7.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg, and 2.1 apg last season for the Charleston Lowgators. A 6-2 guard from George Mason, Miskiri was previously invited to the Houston Rockets summer camp in 2003 and also earned a spot on the 2002 Boston Celtics training camp roster.

Carl English, who is currently training with the Seattle SuperSonics, averaged 8.4 ppg last season with the Lowgators. English recorded single-game highs of 26 points and 8 rebounds during the 2003 – 2004 season. A 6-5 shooting guard out of the University of Hawaii, Carl English competed in the Indiana Pacers training camp last October.

Alpha Bangura, who is currently training with the Washington Wizards, averaged 15.0 ppg and 3.4 rpg last season with the Lowgators. A 6-4 forward from St. Johns, Bangura recorded single-game highs of 27 points and 10 rebounds last season with Charleston.

Five former Lowgators also earned spots with NBA teams. These include Corey Benjamin (Charlotte Bobcats), Damone Brown (New Jersey Nets), Peter Cornell (Utah Jazz), Norm Richardson (Toronto Raptors), and Galen Young (Seattle Supersonics.)

The NBDL season in Southwest Florida begins on Sunday, November 21 at 6 p.m. when the Florida Flame host the Roanoke Dazzle at Germain Arena. Season ticket packages are still available by calling the Flame's office at (239) 561-8130.
