Seven Riverdragons Participating In 2004 NBA Training Camps

COLUMBUS, GA— Seven current and former members of the Columbus Riverdragons have earned spots on 2004 NBA training camp rosters in their efforts to win roster spots for the upcoming NBA season that opens November 2. The seven Riverdragons competing in NBA training camps include: Tremaine Fowlkes (New Orleans Hornets), Derrick Zimmerman (Houston Rockets), Terence Morris (Los Angeles Clippers), Jeff Myers (Atlanta Hawks), Nate Johnson (Los Angeles Lakers), Tang Hamilton (Miami Heat), and Lonnie Jones (Milwaukee Bucks). A total of 50 players from the NBDL's first three seasons are participating in vet camps around the NBA.

• Fowlkes, who has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers, will look to win a roster spot with the New Orleans Hornets and new head coach Byron Scott. Fowlkes was the Riverdragons first round pick in the 2001 NBDL Supplemental Draft and averaged 16.7 points in 42 games with Columbus before being called up to the NBA by the Clippers during the 2001-02 campaign. The 6-8, forward out of Fresno State spent the 2003-04 NBA season as a member of the Pistons NBA championship squad.

• Zimmerman, who finished his rookie season sixth in the NBDL in assists with 5.3 distributions per game, will vie for a roster spot with the Houston Rockets. Zimmerman participated this past summer with the Seattle Supersonics in the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue, July 16-24, in Salt Lake City.

• Morris, who finished fifth in the NBDL in rebounding (7.4 pg) and blocked shots (1.6 pg) during the 2003-04 campaign, is currently competing in training camp with the Los Angeles Clippers. Morris played for the Clippers squad at the Southern California Summer Pro League in Long Beach, Ca. this past summer. In seven games with the Los Angeles, the 6-9 forward and NBA veteran with Houston averaged 10.1 points and 6.4 rebounds, including a 20 point, ten rebound performance against the New York Knicks squad on July 17.

• Myers, a three-year NBDL veteran, will participate with the Atlanta Hawks. Myers was the Dragons second-leading scorer in 2003-04, posting 12.5 points per game and led Columbus in free throw percentage at 85% from the foul line. The 6-2, combo guard out of Drexel also competed in training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2003.

• Johnson, a two-year Dragons veteran and 2003 second-team All-NBDL selection after pacing the D-League in scoring at 19.2 points per game, is currently competing with the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson was a member of the Lakers squad in the Southern California Summer Pro League in Long Beach, Ca. this past summer.

• Hamilton, a 2002-03 First Team All-NBDL selection and rebounding champion (9.0 rpg) with the Dragons, will participate with Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat.

• Jones, who appeared in eight games with the Dragons in 2002-03 is currently competing with the Milwaukee Bucks. Jones appeared in summer league action with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Reebok Vegas Summer Pro League in Las Vegas. The 7-0, center out of Ball State averaged 8.6 rebounds in Las Vegas and tallied a double-double with 17 points and 20 rebounds for the Cavs on July 14 against the Phoenix Suns summer squad.
