Nighthawks Take On Hardaway's Bulls January 14th
December 29, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release
Rockville, MD. At 11-3 on the season, the Maryland Nighthawks are garnering heavy attention from other powerhouse teams in the ABA. One of those teams, the Florida Pit Bulls (#6 in the ABA Pitbull Power Rankings), will travel north to clash with Randy "White Chocolate" Gill, Lawrence "Poetry In" Moten, and the Maryland Nighthawks (#5 in the poll) as part of the ABA's new inter-divisional schedule. Nighthawks' owner Tom Doyle and Pit Bulls player/General Manager Tim Hardaway saw this as a chance to get two of the best teams on the East Coast to face off and to give local fans top level ABA basketball and entertainment.
Hardaway entered the NBA with the Golden State Warriors in 1989. His career continued with the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers. Over his 867 game NBA career, the five-time NBA All-Star averaged 17.7 points and 8.2 assists per game. Hardaway won a gold medal representing the United States in the 2000 Summer Olympics, and has also worked as a studio analyst for ESPN.
Doyle said, "To have a player of the caliber of Tim Hardaway to compete on our home court in Rockville is amazing. Tim is exactly what the ABA is all about - he is extremely hard working and has proven himself a legend in the NBA where every player in this league dreams about playing. It is an honor to have him play in the Maryland Nighthawks.
The Nighthawks have four players averaging double figures including: Gill (19ppg, 5rpg, 3apg); Moten (14ppg, 4 rpg); Anton Jenifer (14ppg, 4 rpg, 4apg); and Ray "Hops" Cunningham (12ppg, 8rpg). The whole team contributes to their success as every Nighthawk averages at least 7ppg.
Maryland plays its games on the Montgomery College - Rockville Campus PE Building. Tickets are available online at Ticketweb.com or through the MCC Box Office. Admission for children (12 and under) is $5.00. Adult (13 and over) tickets are $10.00. Senior Citizens (55 and over) can purchase $7.00 tickets at the box office on game days. A limited number of floor seats are available for $20 at 301 758 1090.
