Omaha Nighthawks News Release
OMAHA, NE - MONDAY, OCT. 25 - At 3-1 and currently in position to play in the UFL Championship Game, the Omaha Nighthawks are still adding impressive talent to their roster. On Monday, Omaha announced the signing of two former NFL first round draft picks in wide receiver Michael Clayton and defensive end Renaldo Wynn.
Clayton, a product of LSU, was selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Clayton played seven seasons with the Bucs from 2004-10, recording 221 catches for 2,936 yards and 10 touchdowns. In 2004, Clayton led all NFL rookies and his team with 80 receptions, 1,193 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Wynn, a Notre Dame graduate, is also an accomplished NFL player. A first-round NFL Draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1997, Wynn spent 13 years in the NFL with five different teams, most recently the Washington Redskins in 2010. In 1997 with the Jaguars, Wynn was named to the All-Rookie team after finishing with 60 tackles, two tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. For his career, Wynn recorded 230 tackles, 27 sacks and four forced fumbles.
"The addition of these two quality players will give us added depth as we continue to make a push to play in the championship game," Nighthawks General Manager Rick Mueller said. "Both Michael and Renaldo have had accomplished careers in the NFL and we are excited that they are now members of the Nighthawks."
The Nighthawks will return to Rosenblatt Stadium for the first time in nearly a month this Thursday when the league-leading Las Vegas Locomotives come to town for a 7 p.m. (CDT) showdown, which will be broadcast on HDNet.
