Amarillo, TX - Nick Trela's late, third period goal lifted the Amarillo Bulls over the Lone Star Brahmas for the second straight night, as the Bulls capture the 2-1 victory on Saturday night.

Unlike the first period on Friday night, the Bulls and Brahmas skated to a much more conservative frame of action to begin the contest. The opening score of the game would come late in the first period, when Lone Star's Sam Brennen took a cross-ice feed to the back of the net for a powerplay goal with 2:55 remaining before the intermission.

After trailing 1-0 at the end of the first, the Bulls entered the second period on a mission to tie the game through continued offensive pressure and more physicality.

"I thought we were flat throughout the first period," said Bulls Coach Rocky Russo, speaking on his first intermission conversation with his team. "I challenged our guys to elevate their game."

The Bulls answered their coach's challenge with a goal just 5:07 into the second, when Nick Stapleton pushed a puck to Noah Carlin, who fired a low shot between the legs of Lone Star's Cayden Bailey to tie the game at 1-1.

The tie score line would hold for the remained of the second and most of the third period, despite continued pressure by the Amarillo shooter.

With just over four minutes to go, the Brahmas would find themselves down a skater after a boarding minor put the Bulls on the powerplay.

After Gagik Malakyan found the stick of Matt Allen below the Brahmas goal line, Allen handed the puck to Nick Trela, who stayed with the play in the slot and found his own rebound that he lifted home to give the Bulls the 2-1 lead.

Amarillo goaltender Max Gutjahr picked up his second win in as many night, as he stopped 17 of 18 Lone Star shots.

Carlin and Trela both recorded their third goals of the season, while Allen's assist on Trela's goal was his fifth helper of the season, growing his team-leading point total to 13.

The Bulls and the Brahmas will faceoff for the second consecutive weekend, as the Bulls take to the road on Friday night. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05 PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
