ODENTON, Maryland. - The Johnstown Tomahawks looked to duplicate Friday's success in the final game of the weekend series, and they did not disappoint.
Saturday's bout proved to be a physical contest, with just over 20 penalties called between both squads. The Hawks and Bears battled a close one, taking a 1-1 tie into the third period.
Then, the Tomahawks offense took over while the defense held things down behind the blue line. Johnstown fired off 3 goals in the third, securing the win and the sweep. Bennett Stockdale, now the NAHL's points leader with 18, picked up the game winning goal.
Maryland came into the series against Johnstown fresh off a two game sweep of the Knights in which they scored 12 goals. They were unable to come close to matching that offensive performance against the Tomahawks.
Johnstown newcomer David Tomeo, a Black Bear himself during the 2018-19 season, stood tall in net. Tomeo's homecoming in Odenton saw him stopping 75 of 77 shots over both games.
The Tomahawks remain in 3rd place in the East Division with 14 points off a record of 6-4-2, nipping at the heels of the WBS Knights (15 points) and first place New Jersey Titans (16 points).
