London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, Ontario) - Guard Nick Okorie will officially make his Lightning debut this weekend when the team plays the A's in Orangeville on Sunday.
Okorie has been sidelined with a foot injury since the team's training camp in December.
"We are really excited to have him back in the lineup as he has always been a big part of our plan," said head coach Kyle Julius. "His maturity, experience and leadership skills will be instrumental to the success of the team."
A seasoned NBL player, Okorie has played in the league on and off since 2012 and has played in Finland, Germany, Denmark and Austria. Last season, he averaged 15 points and 5 assists per game with the Island Storm.
Okorie was acquired when the Island Storm traded him and the 5th and 7th picks in the first round of the 2015 NBL Entry Draft to the Lightning in exchange for Canadian Renaldo Dixon and the rights to Brent Jennings.
"We have a great group of guys and I am looking forward to suiting up with them in front of the thousands of fans in London - the best fan support I have seen since I was in college," said Okorie. "I think we have enough talent to really do something special in this league. Now we just have to put the work in."
The Lightning play the A's in Orangeville Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and will be back in action at Budweiser Gardens Thursday at 7:00 p.m. against the River Lions. Tickets are on sale through the Budweiser Gardens Box Office.
