Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats look to get back on the winning track tonight as they host the Island Storm at 7PM at Harbour Station.
The Storm nipped the Mill Rats on Jan 2nd at Harbour Station, 108-105, to hand Saint John their first loss. Tickets for tonight's game are available online here: http://www.harbourstation.ca/events/index/6 or at the Harbour Station box office.
New Additions
The Mill Rats are pleased to announce the signing of two players: 6'11 centre Mike Armstrong and 6'2 point guard Jabs Newby.
Armstrong, who is a Saint John native, played one season at Cape Breton University and is a graduate of Saint John High School.
Newby was the Mill Rats 1st round draft choice last season, but was swapped in January for Alex Johnson. Newby who was signed in preseason to the Raptors 905 NBA D-League team, began this season with the Windsor Express. Johnson began the season on the Halifax Hurricanes. After Johnson was released by Halifax, Windsor released Newby in order to acquire Johnson.
"Jabs showed alot of potential last season after we drafted him," said Mill Rats GM Ian McCarthy. "We were forced to rebuild the team and traded him, but I told him 'you never know what the future could bring and you could be back here someday.'"
Newby replaces Al Stewart who had returned home to Chicago to attend to personal matters.
The Mill Rats lost a hotly contested road game in Moncton on Thursday night, 123-114. The Mill Rats were led in scoring Doug Herring Jr with 23 points, Gabe Freeman 22, Ricky Volcy 22, Anthony Anderson 14, and Corey Allmond 13.
Single game, flex, and prorated season tickets are on sale at the Harbour Station Box Office or by calling 506-657-1234 or by visiting www.harbourstation.ca.
