[WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.] – Rick Nichol stopped 38 shots for his first win between the pipes, lifting the Winston-Salem Polar Twins to a 4-2 victory over the Huntsville Havoc Friday night at LJVM Annex. Steve Lajoie had two goals for the Polar Twins, who improve to 12-29 on the season.

Huntsville's James Patterson put one in the net at the 6:08 mark of the opening period. With Polar Twins goaltender Nichol down on the ice, Patterson lifted the puck into the open net for a 1-0 Havoc lead.

Trevor Karasiewicz tied it up for Winston-Salem just over two minutes later with his 11th goal of the season. Shawn Breaker, formerly of the Havoc, drilled a shot from the blue line that was deflected by Karasiewicz to extend his point streak to eight games.

The Havoc regained the lead with a power play goal at 12:51. Nichol got caught at the side of the goal crease but the puck bounced out in front to Jason deGuehery who make quick work of the empty net for the 2-1 Huntsville lead.

Steve Lajoie tied it up at 5:03 of the third period with his sixth goal of the season. With Huntsville's Josh Liebenow in the penalty box, Brett Cross connected with Marcus Willy who found Lajoie at the right wing post for a 2-2 game.

Shaun Aebig gave the Polar Twins the lead for good, netting the game winner in a scramble in front of the net with 2:05 left in the game for his 19th goal of the season. Lajoie secured the win for Winston-Salem with an empty net tally at 19:42 for his second goal of the game and seventh of the season.

Tomorrow night is Hawaiian Luau Night when the Columbus Cottonmouths slither into LJVM Coliseum Annex for a 7:30 p.m. face off. Any fan wearing a Hawaiian shirt to the game will receive $2 off the regular ticket price.
