Butler BlueSox News Release

Butler, PA - March 4, 2013 - A half-hour drive from Buffalo, NY will take you to Niagara University, home of the Purple Eagles. Two members of Niagara's pitching staff, Anthony Caringi and Jordan Schwartz, will be trading their purple socks for blue ones this summer.

Caringi hails from Glenside, PA, which is just outside Philadelphia. He worked out of the bullpen last spring, striking out 11 hitters over 19 innings of work, and he was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

"With experience both starting and relieving at the collegiate level, Anthony gives us a few different options on how to use him this summer," said BlueSox' manager Anthony Rebyanski. "Regardless if he earns a starting role or a setup/closer type role, I believe he will make an immediate impact with our pitching staff." He was an All-Star last summer in the Pacific West Baseball League.

Caringi has started three games for the Purple Eagles in 2013. He has struck out 14 hitters and allowed nine hits over 10 2/3 innings of work.

Sophomore Jordan Schwartz started ten games last year as a freshman and relieved ten more, throwing the third-most innings on the team. He has made three appearances already this year, he picked up the save against Tennessee Tech last week.

"As with Anthony, I look for Jordan to compete for a starting spot in our rotation," said Rebyanski. "He is capable to be a starter, middle reliever or a late inning guy for us out of the pen. Regardless of his role, I believe he will also be an immediate impact pitcher for us this summer."

He has made five appearances this summer, allowing three earned runs over nine innings of work. "Jordan's versatility could play a role for us this summer in certain situations," said Rebyanski. "He may get the opportunity to be a two-way player for us having the experience."

Schwartz has appeared in the outfield for Niagara as well. He had 55 at-bats over 20 games last year in addition to his pitching duties.

Two more 2013 BlueSox will be announced next week.
