January 10, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 10, 2011 - Drummondville Voltigeurs forward Sean Couturier is the highest skater ranked (#2) by NHL Central Scouting from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft which is scheduled to take place in Minnesota next June. Of note, four players from the Saint John Sea Dogs cracked the top 30.
"It is certainly an incredible honour to be ranked so high," said Couturier. "My goal continues to be to work hard, get better and help the Voltigeurs go as far as possible in this spring's playoffs."
Couturier is one of six QMJHL players ranked among the top 30 skaters on the National Hockey League's midterm list. The other skaters are: Jonathan Huberdeau (Saint John - #4), Nathan Beaulieu (Saint John - #9), Zach Phillips (Saint John - #12), Phillip Danault (Victoriaville - #23) and Tomas Jurco (Saint John - #24).
Furthermore, Christopher Gibson (Chicoutimi - #2), David Honzik (Victoriaville - #8) and Maxime Lagacé (P.E.I. - #9) are rated as the top goaltenders from the QMJHL.
"I am very pleased with the results with several players making it in the top thirty including three in the top ten," said QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau. "Sean is certainly among the best players that the League has had the privilege of developing over the past few years and he deserves the recognition of being ranked so high. We have a very special group of talented young hockey players in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League which speaks volumes about the incredible work that is being done by our organizations. I am positive that a large number of them will make some NHL clubs very happy in the years to come."
