January 10, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 10, 2011 - Drummondville Voltigeurs forward Sean Couturier is the highest skater ranked (#2) by NHL Central Scouting from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft which is scheduled to take place in Minnesota next June. Of note, four players from the Saint John Sea Dogs cracked the top 30.

"It is certainly an incredible honour to be ranked so high," said Couturier. "My goal continues to be to work hard, get better and help the Voltigeurs go as far as possible in this spring's playoffs."

Couturier is one of six QMJHL players ranked among the top 30 skaters on the National Hockey League's midterm list. The other skaters are: Jonathan Huberdeau (Saint John - #4), Nathan Beaulieu (Saint John - #9), Zach Phillips (Saint John - #12), Phillip Danault (Victoriaville - #23) and Tomas Jurco (Saint John - #24).

Furthermore, Christopher Gibson (Chicoutimi - #2), David Honzik (Victoriaville - #8) and Maxime Lagacé (P.E.I. - #9) are rated as the top goaltenders from the QMJHL.

"I am very pleased with the results with several players making it in the top thirty including three in the top ten," said QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau. "Sean is certainly among the best players that the League has had the privilege of developing over the past few years and he deserves the recognition of being ranked so high. We have a very special group of talented young hockey players in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League which speaks volumes about the incredible work that is being done by our organizations. I am positive that a large number of them will make some NHL clubs very happy in the years to come." - Press Release courtesy of Karl Jahnke, Director of Media Relations and Marketing Services for the QMJHL.

The Lewiston MAINEiacs were also represented in the midterm rankings, as forward Samuel Henley made the list as the 155th ranked skater among North Americans.

"I was happy to see Sam's name listed, but I think he has a lot of qualities that would have put him higher on the list," said MAINEiacs' General Manager Roger Shannon. "In fact, in talking to scouts from some NHL teams, they had him ranked much higher on their lists than the rankings have him today," he said.

Henley, 17, is playing in his second season with the MAINEiacs, and has seen his offensive numbers rise significantly. After recording four goals, nine assists, and 13 points in 63 games a year ago, the Val-d'Or, QC native has eclipsed all three of those marks, totaling nine goals, 12 assists, and 21 points in 44 games this season. Along with his offensive skills, Henley is also a responsible defensive forward, who has earned significant time on the penalty kill.

"A player like Sam Henley is one that will give you many years of service. It is tough to find someone who is so defensively responsible, while also being willing to pay the price every single game and every single night. He will be a real find for somebody, and the NHL team that does in fact land Sam Henley will be very happy with what they get," said Shannon.

Head Coach Jean-Francois Houle added, "Sam Henley is a workhorse for our team. He is good defensively, blocks shots, and is instrumental to our success. Sam is well-liked by his teammates, and is a great leader both on the ice and in the locker room."
