News Florida Launch Seek Fourth Straight Win in First Game
The Florida Launch look to extend their three game win streak to four as they gear up for game one of a two-game road trip. The Launch are set to take on the Charlotte Hounds for the first time this season this Saturday, June 24. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Lax Sports Network.
After putting out the Atlanta Blaze last weekend with a 19-16 home victory, the Launch look to reach a franchise record six wins with five more games still to play. Launch attackman Kieran McArdle was a key factor against the Blaze as he dropped seven goals and an assist. McArdle has enjoyed a hot start to the year with an impressive 20 points in just four games.
The offense has benefitted heavily from an injection of young talent picked up in the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft. Rookies Dylan Molloy, Nick Mariano, Sergio Salcido, and Ryan Drenner have combined for 21 points since making their debuts.
Several rookies have stepped up on the other side of the ball to complement veteran Tucker Durkin. First year players Tim Muller, Alec Tulett, and Jarrod Neumann have defended well through their first few MLL games and have provided Durkin with a solid supporting cast. Goalie Austin Kaut has been one of the team's top performers this season as he currently leads the league in saves (156).
As for this week's opposition, Charlotte will attempt to break the Launch's streak as they look to close the gap in the league standings. The Hounds currently sits two games behind the third place Launch.
First year head coach Tom Mariano has led the team to its current streak but understands the importance of doing the little things right to keep winning. "We need to compete at the faceoff X, we need to limit their attack touches, and we need to create and capitalize on our opportunities on offense," said Mariano when asked about the Hounds.
The Launch return home July 15 to FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. as they take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks at 7 p.m. In a halftime ceremony, the Launch will honor lacrosse legend and former player Casey Powell by retiring his famed No. 22 jersey.
