Alexandria Aces News Release

ALEXANDRIA- Austin Newell had three hits and three runs driven in while Mike Loseke won his third game of the season to give the Alexandria Aces a 7-4 victory against the Edinburg Roadrunners Sunday night at Bringhurst Field.

To continue with the "threes are wild theme" of the game for the Aces (24-20), the 3-run victory allowed Alexandria to take three games from the Roadrunners (20-24) in the four game series and win all three series the two teams have played this year by three-games-to-one-margins.

Newell had two doubles in the game, one off Antony Bello (2-4) beyond the reach of Edinburg centerfielder Tim Maitland in the first inning to drive in Alex Foltz for the first run of the game and another off Leo Madrid to drive in two more runs and highlight a 4-run fourth inning for the Aces, giving them a 4-0 advantage.

The Roadrunners came back of Loseke (3-1) with two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth on Ryde Rodriguez's 2-run home run to deep left, but the Aces bullpen shut out Edinburg for the final three innings, with Houma native Cullen Babin throwing 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to record his first professional save.

Derrick Pyles' extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a run scoring single to left in the seventh off Madrid. The hit gives him the United League lead in RBIs with 43.

NOTES- The Aces and Roadrunners traded backup catchers prior to the game, with Shreveport's Brandon Spencer, who had a walk-off double in Thursday's 6-5 triumph against Edinburg in the first game of the series, going to Edinburg in exchange for Ryan Gasporra.

Gasporra began the year with Alexandria and was the Aces' opening day starting catcher. He was 1 for 5 with Edinburg and hitting .250 this season with one home run and 12 RBIs in 72 at bats overall.
