Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock, AR - Angels top prospect LHP Sean Newcomb picked up his first Double-A victory in the Arkansas Travelers 6-1 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Newcomb worked five innings and allowed a run on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts. The 22-year-old has a 1.69 ERA over his first three starts with Arkansas.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, 3B Brian Hernandez, RF Cal Towey and SS Erick Salcedo each singled to load the bases with one out. 2B Sherman Johnson drew his Minor League Baseball-leading 10th bases loaded walk to tie the game 1-1, and CF Chad Hinshaw followed with a walk to put the Travs up 2-1. DH Raywilly Gomez then ripped a two-run single to right to increase Arkansas' lead to 4-1. The Travs capped the five-run second by scoring on a P Aaron West throwing error on an attempted pickoff at first base with runners on the corners.
The Travs increased their lead to 6-1 with a RF Blake Gailen sacrifice fly in the fourth.
RHP Eduard Santos worked three brilliant innings in relief of Newcomb. Santos allowed just a hit and a walk with three strikeouts. The three innings totaled the longest outing for Santos this season.
Hinshaw finished 1-for-4 with two runs, the walk and the RBI and extended his consecutive games on-base streak to 22 straight games.
Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, his fifth three-hit game for Arkansas this season.
Every Travs starter reached base at least once.
With the win and a Springfield loss, the Travs moved into a tie atop the Texas League North second half standings.
Arkansas snapped a season-long seven-game losing streak.
